TAROT - THE ARCHETYPE OF THE HIGH PRIESTESS AND ITS SYMBOLISM WITHIN TAROT

CARD TWO : THE HIGH PRIESTESS

The High Priestess - Wikipedia

The High Priestess, depicted as having the lunar crescent at her feet, a horned diadem adorning her head with a globe in the center, and a large solar cross on her breast. She holds a scroll inscribed with the word Tora, symbolizing the Greater Law, the Secret Law, and the deeper meaning of the Word, partly concealed by her mantle to signify the presence of both implied and spoken truths.

Seated between the white and black pillars of the mystic Temple, with the Temple veil embroidered with palms and pomegranates behind her, she embodies Occult Science at the threshold of the Sanctuary of Isis. However, she truly represents the Secret Church, the divine union of God (Nature) and humanity. She also symbolizes the spiritual union, referred to as the Second Marriage, transcending earthly existence.

As the Queen of borrowed light, she embodies the universal light, nourished by the Supernal Mother, and in essence, she is also the Supernal Mother herself, reflecting the divine glory. In Kabbalistic tradition, she is known as Shekinah, symbolizing the indwelling glory both above (Binah) and below (Malkuth), imparting divine understanding to the just.

Mystically, the Shekinah is considered the Spiritual Bride of the righteous, illuminating the divine meaning of the Law. In some interpretations, this card represents the pinnacle of the Greater Arcana, embodying profound holiness and spiritual significance.
