TAROT - THE ARCHETYPE OF THE EMPRESS AND ITS SYMBOLISM WITHIN TAROT

CARD THREE: THE EMPRESS

The Empress (tarot card) - Wikipedia

Presented as a majestic figure seated regally, adorned in opulent attire, exuding an aura befitting a celestial and earthly offspring. Her diadem, embellished with twelve stars, is arranged in a cluster, while the symbol of Venus adorns the shield resting nearby. In front of her, a field of ripening corn extends, with a waterfall visible beyond. The scepter she holds is crowned with the globe representing the terrestrial realm.

She embodies the terrestrial counterpart to the Garden of Eden, the Earthly Paradise, symbolizing all that is represented by humanity's visible abode. Though she is not the Queen of Heaven, she is still the refuge of sinners, the prolific mother of multitudes. While she has been likened to desire and its manifestations, the woman clothed with the sun, and the glory of the world, she is not solely the soul that has attained wings unless interpreted in an alternative manner. Above all, she represents universal fertility and the outward manifestation of the divine Word.

The Empress symbolizes the gateway to earthly existence, akin to the entrance into the Garden of Venus, with the High Priestess possessing the knowledge of the path leading beyond. Many traditional interpretations of this card's symbolism are erroneous, such as its association with the Word, Divine Nature, or the Triad.
