TAROT - THE ARCHETYPE OF THE CHARIOT AND ITS SYMBOLISM WITHIN TAROT

CARD SEVEN: THE CHARIOT

The Chariot (tarot card) - Wikipedia

A noble and upright figure stands, holding a drawn sword, embodying the traditional description provided earlier. It is believed that the Urim and Thummim rest upon the shoulders of this victorious hero. He symbolizes triumph on all levels—mental, scientific, and progressive, as well as in certain trials of initiation. By answering the riddle of the Sphinx, he demonstrates his conquest, hence the depiction of two sphinxes drawing his chariot. His triumph primarily pertains to the realm of the intellect.

It's important to note that the sphinx's question relates to a Mystery of Nature rather than matters of Grace, to which the charioteer cannot provide an answer. His conquests are external rather than internal, and the liberation he achieves may still leave him bound by logical understanding. The trials he has overcome are to be interpreted physically or rationally, and if confronted with the High Priestess and her scroll called Tora, he would be unable to open it or respond to her questioning. He does not represent hereditary royalty or priesthood.
